California semiconductor-equipment manufacturer Applied Materials implemented our hybrid system solution that includes passive RFID tags and real-time location system (RTLS) technology to better manage where its equipment is located, as well as the compliance of its calibration procedures.
Client: Applied Materials, Inc.
Applied Materials, Inc. is the global leader in materials engineering solution for the semiconductor, flat panel display and solar photovoltaic (PV) industries. Our technologies help make innovations like smartphones, flat screen TVs and solar panels more affordable and accessible to consumers and businesses around the world.
- Better manage where its equipment is located
- Compliance of its calibration procedures
- Protect the intellectual property (IP) of their clients
- RFID readers for tracking items fitted with EPC
- Gen 2 passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) tags
- Active Wi-Fi tags that transmit information to the company’s existing Wi-Fi nodes.
How did we do it?
Wi-Fi RTLS solution
Utilizing real-time location sensors from Aruba Airwave hardware, we were able to collect real time data about indoor location of lab equipment and other valuable assets.
UHF RFID equipped asset tracking
With UHF RFID readers placed on doorways and gates client is able to detect unauthorized movement of expensive equipment and customer’s IP and receive notifications and alerts about such an events. With the hardware in place continuous inventory was conducted to ease up the process of locating equipment.
One hybrid asset tracking and visibility managements system
Sensor data and readings from both RTLS and UHF RFID systems were received and aggregated in our tagVUE AV web application utilizing the power of viewing the data in same place for different types of items tracked through different sensor technologies. Ability to quickly get overview of asset location and perform calibration procedures proved to be crucial for client needs.
Valuable asset and IP protection
Integrated event detection functionalities provide real-time alerts and notifications in case of moving valuable equipment and customer’s IP out of its defined perimeter based on the sensors on the gateways and doors.
Equipment reservation system
Built-in asset reservation system enabled easy sharing and reservation of equipment between employees giving valuable advantage of managing future reservation requests by different employees
